A Courier from Brighton received his own special delivery this week after he got his hands on the keys to a new Mercedes Benz van. Stephen Collins won the top of the range vehicle in a prize draw organised by parcel delivery firm Hermes.
The company entered every courier who hit their delivery targets over the busy Christmas period into the special draw and Stephen landed the top prize, a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van worth in the region of £28,000.
Stephen, who is 53 years old and lives in Southwick, said: “I received an email saying I’d won a new van but I had completely forgotten about the prize draw. I can’t believe I won, the van is now parked on my driveway but it still hasn’t sunk in. It is a fantastic vehicle and I can’t wait to use it on my rounds.”
Stephen, who used to own a newsagent in Brighton, has been delivering parcels for Hermes since August 2011. On average he delivers around 50 items a day to online shoppers who live around Hove Park and in Shoreham.
He said: “I used to work seven days a week, up to 12 hours a day, and that limited the amount of time I had with my family. I decided to become a courier for Hermes instead. It offers me a lot more flexibility and I choose not to work over the weekends, so I can spend valuable time with my son.”
Conor Ormsby, Hermes’ Head of Courier Services, added: “Couriers like Stephen play such an integral role within our business and they contributed massively to another successful peak season, where we delivered more than 36 million parcels. Organising a prize draw and giving away a number of top prizes is a great way to say thanks for all their hard work.”
