The IndiGo Airlines has officially begun incoming cargo operations via the passenger terminal of Donyi Polo Airport.

The inbound cargo services started during the Friday, while the outbound operations would begin shortly from Hollongi Airport, near here, Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote on X.

The CM hailed the development as a major milestone in the state’s connectivity and economic growth journey. The inbound cargo services would enable faster delivery of essential goods, parcels and business consignments directly to Itanagar, he said.

“It would benefit the local traders and entrepreneurs with quicker, cost-effective logistics and also improve access to medical supplies, enhancing emergency healthcare response,” he said, adding the facility would be convenient for air passengers who can now receive shipments during their travel.

“The service would also give a boost to local economy through efficient supply chain operations and reduce dependence on road transport, especially vital during monsoons.” Khandu said.

The enhanced multi-modal connectivity will strengthen Donyi Polo Airport’s position as an emerging logistics hub for the NE region, he added.

This airport, 14-km south of Itanagar, was inaugurated on 19.11.22 with flight services to Kolkata by IndiGO and to Mumbai on 28.11.22, putting Itanagar on air map of India.
