At the beginning of August, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the world’s largest express transportation company, announced the opening of its new station in Chorzów.
“We are committed to continuous improvement of the quality of our services and we believe combining FedEx locations in Katowice and Kędzierzyn-Koźle, the teams, their experience and capabilities, will boost operational capacity and increase customer service standards,” said Mariusz Mik, managing director of Poland Operations at FedEx Express.
The new 7,000-square-metre facility is located at the ultramodern Prologis Park Chorzów logistics centre, located near the A4 highway and Gliwice-Sośnice junction – an intersection of the two biggest international road transport corridors in Poland. As the new station is much easier to reach by road infrastructure, it will improve the efficiency of shipments to all locations in Poland and to the rest of the world.
Opening the centre at the Chorzów logistics park provides a boost to operating capacity. The extensive infrastructure at the new location allows FedEx couriers to more efficiently load their trucks, resulting in earlier pick-ups and deliveries and, as a consequence, faster customer service. The centre is equipped with nine line haul ramps, 15 line haul parking spaces, and 22 dock levellers for courier vehicles.
FedEx has also launched a sorting sub-centre at the new location, handling parcels arriving from southern Poland and from around Wrocław and Poznań. The launch of an innovative parcel sorting system consisting of driven roller conveyor modules with inline weighing scales significantly speeds up delivery of packages to customers in these regions.
“We are constantly optimising our network and structure of Operations,” added Mik, “The opening of the Chorzów location is another example, and we are confident that this will increase the level of satisfaction of our customers, which is our highest priority.”
