A VW Golf was recorded spinning wildly out of control on Germany’s Autobahn and narrowly missing oncoming traffic. The footage was captured using a 3G vehicle camera from Intelligent Telematics fitted on a commercial vehicle, which was on a cross-border delivery route between the UK and mainland Europe. A major collision was only avoided by the quick thinking of the commercial vehicle driver, who was able swerve out of the way of the car as it came to a standstill.

The incident highlights the need for international road transport operators to have greater levels of visibility across their fleets to protect drivers, avoid unnecessary insurance costs and operate responsibly. With this in mind, Intelligent Telematics is now offering a pan-European 3G camera solution using EU28 roaming sim cards, providing an effective means of monitoring resources and gaining added peace of mind regarding the safety of employees on the road.

Sam Footer, Head of International Business and Strategic Development at Intelligent Telematics commented: “Following the success of the IT1000 device in the UK, it made sense to create a pan-European solution that would meet the needs of domestic and cross-border transport operators across the region. Our 3G vehicle cameras have already shown to improve road safety and reduce insurance costs, offering an efficient and proactive system to report and deal with claims as well as a useful tool to improve driver behaviour.”

Intelligent Telematics’ IT1000 3G vehicle camera is the most sophisticated vehicle camera solution currently available and the only device of its kind certified for after-market installation in the EU. The forward facing device transmits footage of accidents and near misses via a secure 3G private network to a web-based interface with live email and SMS alerts, so a triggered event can be viewed almost immediately.
