UK same day delivery company CitySprint has acquired another regional courier firm, Northampton-based Crisis Courier Solutions. The acquired firm has a fleet of more than 80 vehicles providing same day, next-day and international door-to-door collection and delivery services.
Crisis Courier Solutions has been operating since 2004.
CitySprint has now acquired 19 courier firms since 2010, when it was subject to a management buyout backed by private equity firm Dunedin. The firm made £112.7m in sales in the 12 months up to the end of December 2013.
The firm said all Crisis Courier Solutions staff will be transferred to CitySprint, with the company’s Northampton site becoming a CitySprint service centre.
Prior to the acquisition, CitySprint had a network of 3,000 couriers and 40 wholly-owned service centres across mainland Britain. The firm claims to now reach 80% of the British mainland within 60 minutes.
“Milestone”
Patrick Gallagher, the CitySprint chief executive, described the firm’s latest acquisition as “another growth milestone” as the firm continues to expand its reach in the UK.
“This move helps further consolidate our position as the leading private same day distribution company, and we are very pleased to welcome Crisis Courier Solutions to CitySprint,” he said.
CitySprint said customer contact details for Crisis Courier Solutions remain the same after the acquisition, which is expected to see the firm officially joining CitySprint effective 20th April.
Helen O’Keeffe, the Crisis Courier Solutions managing director, said CitySprint shared her firm’s “passion and expertise” in same day delivery.
“This move means access to news services and a wider reach for our customers and more opportunity for our staff,” she said. “We will be working hard to ensure the transition is a smooth and seamless one for our customers.”
