AIT Home Delivery raising the bar in Europe’s largest home delivery market

When AIT Home Delivery – a wholly owned subsidiary of AIT Worldwide Logistics – launched its two person next day delivery service in Germany, it wasn’t simply entering another European market – it was creating a strategic platform for long term growth across the continent.

And just 10 months after the launch of the service on the continent, the decision to focus on Germany is proving it was the right one and delivering results.

Hitting the ground running, AIT has secured a number of significant customer contracts and established a warehousing and distribution operation in Hannover. The team offers next day coverage to 94% of Germany’s key population centres, creating one of the most comprehensive two person home delivery networks in the country.

The move builds on the success of the company’s two person delivery model, which revolutionised the UK home delivery sector by giving customers greater control with flexible delivery options including nominated day delivery, room of choice delivery, installation, assembly and packaging removal.

Germany’s combination of economic strength, infrastructure and consumer demand made it the standout choice when AIT evaluated a number of potential European expansion markets.

Gary McKelvey, AIT’s vice president, global home delivery, explained: ‘We assessed the opportunities across Europe and Germany emerged as the clear frontrunner. The country offers an excellent road network, highly concentrated population centres, and the largest economy in Europe.’

Germany’s rapidly expanding e-commerce market was another major attraction. Not only are there a number of synergies with the UK e-commerce marketplace and buying culture, but it is one of Europe’s largest online retail markets. Demand for premium home delivery services is also continuing to grow as consumers increasingly expect greater convenience, visibility and control over the delivery experience.

Unlike many traditional providers, AIT offers customers four hour delivery slots, real time communication, and a range of value added services designed around the customer experience.

‘German consumers place a high value on quality, reliability and control,’ added Gary. ‘Our proposition aligns perfectly with those expectations. Customers know exactly when their delivery will arrive, they have access to premium services, and they receive a level of visibility and communication that is unmatched in the market.’

Supporting the operation is AIT’s strategically located warehouse facility in Hannover, offering approximately 9000 pallet spaces and providing customers with a fully integrated warehousing and distribution solution.

The facility serves as a central hub for inventory storage, order fulfilment and final mile delivery, enabling customers to access a seamless end to end logistics solution through a single provider.

For AIT, however, Germany has always represented more than a single country opportunity.

Gary continued, ‘Germany was always about much more than entering a new market. It was about creating a strategic platform for future growth. As the largest economy in Europe and one of the continent’s most advanced e-commerce markets, it offers enormous potential for a premium home delivery proposition such as ours.

‘The contracts we have secured, the coverage we have achieved, and the operational capability we have built in Hannover have confirmed that decision. We now have the foundations in place to support both existing customers expanding into Germany and German businesses at a local level looking for a premium home delivery partner.’

Germany’s central location provides a gateway to key neighbouring markets such as Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands positioning AIT to support customers’ future European growth ambitions.

Looking to the future, Ryan Carter, executive vice president, global operations, said: ‘Germany also places us at the heart of Europe, creating opportunities for future expansion as we continue to develop our European network. Our team’s fast service and flexible, white glove options enable retailers to provide consumers with a world class delivery experience that enhances brand loyalty.’

AIT’s rapid progress since launch demonstrates the strength of both the market opportunity and the company’s market differentiators.

With growing customer demand, expanding geographic coverage, significant contract wins, and a robust operational infrastructure now firmly established, Germany is set to play a pivotal role in AIT Home Delivery’s long term European growth strategy.

As more retailers and manufacturers seek premium home delivery solutions that combine speed, service quality and customer convenience, AIT’s proven two person delivery model is ideally positioned to support the next phase of growth in Europe’s most important logistics market.
