Savvy drivers in the UK saved an estimated £66 million on their fuel bills in 2014 by driving on autogas LPG according to latest estimates from leading LPG supplier Autogas Ltd.
Despite petrol prices falling in recent weeks and the tantalising prospect of unleaded reaching £1 per litre for the first time since autumn 2008, 150,000 shrewd drivers in the UK are making far greater savings by driving on the fuel which cuts bills by around 40 per cent. Indeed, the average current UK price for LPG is just 64.68 pence per litre*, a fraction of the 110.33 pence per litre* being paid around the country for unleaded.
“The recent fall in the cost of petrol and diesel is welcome news to millions of motorists, but it’s important to remember that this is could easily be a short-lived reduction,” comments Linda Gomersall, general manager, Autogas Limited. “Not too long ago drivers were paying record prices for unleaded of more than £1.40 per litre and a return to similar levels is not inconceivable. With the Government’s recent 10 year commitment to the fuel differential between petrol and LPG, the only way to guarantee permanently lower priced fuel is to make the switch to LPG.”
Drivers of petrol powered cars who have them converted to run on autogas LPG have access to an established refuelling network of more than 1,400 refuelling stations across the UK. Vehicle performance is not compromised when running on LPG and unlike electric vehicles, there are no problems with driving long distances. Furthermore, as autogas LPG is much cleaner than petrol or diesel it’s impact on the environment and air quality is much reduced.
“With such massive savings permanently available, it’s not surprising that tens of thousands of drivers continue to choose LPG,” adds Gomersall. “And with the prospect of even deeper austerity cuts following the general election later this year, we can expect autoas LPG to be a highly attractive option to even more drivers throughout the year.”
