Courier pay cuts trigger strikes as peak season looms

DPD recent pay cuts and strikes have exposed how fragile the current package delivery model has become.

Drivers, who are facing unpredictable earnings and delayed payments are walking away when they’re needed most; peak delivery season is only weeks away.

Below please find supporting comments from Isabella Wayte, co-founder of YOVOY a recently launched scalable delivery software solution which will give UK businesses direct access to a virtual fleet.

“This time of year is already very challenging to attract and retain resources due to the surge of work and additional income available”.

“When pay structures shift overnight, that forces drivers to chase short-term, higher paying work.  Given that drivers don’t control parcel assignment or job size (these are fixed by carrier contracts), they have no way to shield themselves from these sudden cuts.  And with no holiday or sick pay buffer their margin for error is gone – this kind of upheaval jeopardises not only driver livelihoods but the reliability of the entire network.”

“Fair, transparent pay is the only sustainable fix.  Drivers need to know what they’ll earn before taking a job and be paid quickly.”

YOVOY’s approach is fair pay and terms for drivers, clear rates, job choice and payment within 7 days.
