Whistl, the leading delivery management company with activities in Business Mail, Doordrop Media and Parcels, has officially opened its new Bolton super depot located on the Logistics North development by Junction 4 of the M61.

Nick Wells, CEO was joined by local councillors and representatives from the local community at the opening event along with clients of Whistl who wanted to see the state of the art facility.

Whistl began moving into the building in April, installing the machinery that enables it to process mail and parcels for distribution across the UK.  The company expects to create 500 jobs at the site and has been working with Bolton Council, through its Team Bolton partnership, to recruit people to the site.

The Bolton site is a consolidation of previous operations from Leeds and Warrington onto one site that has 33% greater capacity for future expansion of its existing mail, packet and parcel and ecommerce business.

The move to Bolton will help improve the operational efficiency of Whistl as the building has 4 level access doors, 20 dock levellers, 50 trailer parking spaces, 31 loading positions and 222 car parking spaces.

Nick Wells, CEO Whistl: said: “The opening of Bolton is a significant development for us at Whistl as we continue to invest in the business to provide clients with the highest quality and most efficient service.  I am pleased that clients and representatives from the local community joined us today to celebrate this significant milestone for our company.”

Councillor Cliff Morris, Leader of Bolton Council, said: “It is fantastic to see this depot open, and to see Whistl joining the likes of Aldi, Lidl and MBDA on this flagship development.

“We have been working closely with Whistl, through the Team Bolton Partnership, on employment and training opportunities for our residents.

“So far we have ring-fenced 60 vacancies for people who have been out of work long-term and more recruitment is planned for later in the year.”
