_DSC6443Hermes, the consumer delivery specialist, is celebrating after securing a prestigious industry award in London. The company won the Courier Team Award at the 2016 National Courier Awards, held at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall.

Hermes triumphed after the judging panel was impressed by the company’s ability to setup a specialist team tasked with preparing the business for last year’s busy Black Friday and Christmas period. The team was specifically formed of senior employees handpicked from different departments across the business, working closely together to develop and execute a precise strategy that led to Hermes’ most successful peak season to date. As a result, Hermes’s network of self-employed couriers delivered in excess of 30.3 million parcels in December alone.

Martijn de Lange, COO at Hermes said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised at the National Courier Awards. This success is testimony to the hard work and commitment displayed our team, as well as the fantastic service delivered by on a daily basis by our dedicated network of self-employed couriers. We will continue to invest in innovation in order to develop our market-leading portfolio of services and solutions as we look to build on this achievement.”

The annual event is organised by the Institute of Couriers (IoC) in order to celebrate industry best practice, covering courier companies large and small, both regional and national.

Commenting at the ceremony, Carl Lomas, Chair of the IoC, said: “The continued retail shift from high street to home delivery has brought challenges to a sector evolving to deliver customer excellence. Those at the forefront have been recognised by our independent panel of judges.”
