Shell Sells A Quarter Of UK Petrol Stations

Royal Dutch Shell has agreed to sell around 185 petrol stations in the UK to two forecourt operators. The number is a quarter of Shell’s portfolio and is part of an attempt to grow its fuel dealer network instead of owning retail outlets directly. Like-for-like retail sales up 3.2% in March

Retail sales increased by 3.2% in March on a like-for-like basis compared to the same month last year. On a total basis sales were up by 4.7%. Figures published in the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor show that total food sales experienced their strongest growth since July 2013, growing by 1.8% in the three months to March although they were helped by the Easter distortion. Poundland has reported that its full year revenues topped £1 billion for the first time after a “solid” fourth quarter of sales growth. In the 13 weeks to 29 March, total revenue excluding a trial in Spain increased by 7.1% on a constant currency basis. During the year, total revenue excluding Spain, climbed by 11.8% to £1.1 billion. New research is predicting that consumer spending on mobile devices will top £53.6 billion a year by 2024 compared to the £9.7 billion spent today. However, the research by Barclays shows that the influence of mobile on spending is expected to more than double this figure from £18.4 billion to £112 billion over the same period.
